Match Play Champions Crowned at Cherry Blossom

GEORGETOWN, KY (August 3, 2023) – Three days of competition culminated in three crowned champions for the 2023 Match Play Championship supported by Southern Seam and hosted by Cherry Blossom Golf Club. Taking home the hardware are Josh Rhodes in the Open Division, Tom Campbell in the Senior Division and Chris Chee in the Masters Division.

After a day-one stroke play qualifier to determine the match play participants, the three champions quickly got to work making their way through the bracket. Josh Rhodes had some impressive wins early on, with a 5&4 victory in the round of 32 and a 4&2 victory in the round of 16. After repeating a 5&4 victory in the semi-finals, he claimed the title after taking his match against Bradley Sutherland to extra holes, winning 1 up and playing 19.

For the senior division, number-one seed Tom Campbell proved his place by dominating his matches. After a bye into the quarterfinals, he won every match by a minimum of 3-up against his opponent, including a 3&2 championship win against Scott Ray to take home another match play title.

On the Masters side, Chris Chee also had a bye into the quarterfinals as he was seeded second. 5&4 and 1-up victories brought him to the final, which ended up going to 22 holes to determine the victor. He persevered against Kevin Auton to win.
