Fuller, Rhodes, and Thomis Share Lead After Round One of 111th Kentucky Amateur

LEXINGTON, KY (June 23, 2025) – After many rainstorms and sweltering summer heat, Joshua Rhodes, Luke Fuller, and Warren Thomis sit atop the leaderboard at 4-under-par, after round one of the 111th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur Championship at Lexington Country Club.

Rhodes overcame a shaky start on the front nine and caught fire coming home, carding a bogey-free 32 on his back nine. Fuller matched the round’s lowest score with six birdies, capitalizing on early momentum to grab a share of the lead. Thomis also impressed, delivering seven birdies across his round to join the trio at the top of the leaderboard. The championship par is 71, with Hole #1 converted to a par four, reshaping early scoring strategy.

Just two shots back, Gavin Clutts holds solo fourth at 2-under-par, notching four birdies to stay well within contention.

Scoring was anything but easy, particularly at Hole #1, converted to a 476-yard par four for the championship. It played as the hardest hole of the day, averaging 4.58 strokes. Only six birdies were recorded, compared to 52 bogeys and 17 double bogeys, proving it to be a formidable start for the field.

As play continues, a crowded leaderboard and championship-caliber conditions promise an exciting race for the Commonwealth’s most prestigious amateur title. Players must navigate a renovated Lexington Country Club layout that has seen major updates since the event last visited in 2020, including new bunkers, green adjustments, tree removals, and added yardage—now playing over 7,350 yards from the championship tees.
