Kentucky Equity Championship to Debut This September

Kentucky Golf Association confirms details of debut Equity Championship.

LOUISVILLE, KY (March 11, 2022) – The Kentucky Golf Association is set to debut the Kentucky Equity Championship this fall in what will be a first-of-its-kind golf tournament.

Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington will host the event on September 10-11 which will be open to people of color who are amateur golfers as defined by the USGA while also holding a valid handicap index within the Kentucky Golf Association. Non-Kentucky residents are welcome to register so long as their handicap originates from a KGA Member Club.

Centered on providing an opportunity for golfers of diverse backgrounds to enjoy the spirit of the game together while competing for a championship, this will be a 36-hole competition with both individual and team leaderboards incorporated. Individually, each player’s gross and net score will be counted and divided into divisions based on age and gender where prizes will be awarded.

The team format will be contested under a two-person best-ball format. There will be a men’s leaderboard and a women’s leaderboard with each counting gross and net scores. Players who fall under different age divisions in the individual contest will be able to compete together in the team contest even if they are playing from different tees.

“I’m extremely excited that we are getting this tournament launched,” Jim Thompson, President of the Kentucky Golf Association said in conjunction with the tournament’s announcement. “This is something that we as an Association felt like we needed to have, and it’s been a long time coming. As the leading organization for amateur golf in Kentucky, it is our responsibility to make the golf community a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all persons interested in playing the game. Golf is a game for all, and we want this Championship to promote that.”

The KGA looks forward to staging this event and providing this unique opportunity for diverse golfers in the area. The KGA also extends its appreciation towards Kearney Hill Golf Links for their interest and willingness to host the event. Registration for the tournament is open and can be completed by clicking here.
