Leach Named Female Player of the Year

The Kentucky Golf Association is pleased to announce the 2016 Female Player of the Year, according to the Bushnell Amateur Standings.  It is none other than Martha Leach of Hebron.

The talented Leach, who was inducted into the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame last year, continued her illustrious ways this past season - including two very busy and successful weeks in USGA Championships. This began with the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur at The Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa. on September 10-15.  Leach, the 2009 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Champion, qualified for match play among the top 64 players in the field.  She defeated Samantha Perrotta of Bordentown, N.J. 3&2 in the Round of 64.  She defeated Paige McCullough of Minneapolis, Minn. 2&1 in the Round of 32.  She then fell to Katie Miller of Jeannette, Pa. in the Round of 16. She then moved to the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur at Wellesley Country Club in Wellesley, Mass. on September 17-22.  Leach has posted much success in the event in the past and this year was no different.  She again qualified for match play, among the top 64 players in the field before narrowly losing to Sue Wooster of Australia.

These two shining accomplishments were good enough for Leach to bring home the Kentucky Golf Association's top honor for 2016 by 200 points over Elsa Moberly of Somerset.  Moberly, an Eastern Kentucky University standout, won the 2016 Women's Kentucky Amateur Championship.  Congratulations to Martha Leach on a fantastic season! She takes over as Female Player of the Year, a spot held since it's inception in 2014 by Emma Talley.  Talley turned Professional this season after graduating from Alabama.  Leach will be recognized at the Kentucky Golf Association's Fall Meeting as well as the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame Ceremony.
