Gumm Wins in Playoff

The final round of the Kentucky Women's Open at Heritage Hill Golf Course on Wednesday, July 20 was much less humid than the first, but the golf was still as hot as the opening round.  Cloud cover and a light breeze kept temperatures a bit more bearable in round two. There were many great rounds posted to finish off the day.  First Round leader, Laura Restrepo, a recent University of Louisville graduate, posted a final round one-under-par 71 to finish at eight-under-par for the tournament.  Two bogeys and a triple on the 17th hole spoiled her hopes of repeating her first round magic.

She had company at the top, as Lydia Gumm of Radcliff posted a final round 69 to tie.  The Florida State University Senior-to-be posted four birdies, three bogeys and an eagle in her final round.  The duo headed to a playoff on the eighteenth hole.  You could have thrown a blanket over their perfectly placed tee shots.  Restrepo hit her ball to about 8 feet and Gumm almost knocked her ball in the hole from the fairway.  Restrepo narrowly missed her birdie try and Gumm tapped in her birdie to seal the victory. Gumm was also the Low Amateur in the field. Kasey Petty of Winchester Canal, Ohio was the Low Professional by one shot over Louisville's Katie Petrino with a 137 total.  Megan Wilshire also finished her tournament at seven-under-par.  Our Mid-Amateur Champion (for those 25 and over) was Erin Back of Lexington.

Congratulations to all of our winners and to Gumm, our Champion! We would like to thank Heritage Hill and Head PGA Professional Nick Sweeney for being fantastic hosts and Turtleson and Sales Representative for a terrific tee gift.
