Sara Stephens, PGA, Claims KPGA Women's Professional Championship & Alastair Tidcombe, PGA, Claims 18th KPGA Assistant Professional Championship

BOWLING GREEN, KY (August 25, 2025) — Bowling Green Country Club hosted both the KPGA Women's Professional Championship and the 18th KPGA Assistant Professional Championship on August 25, 2025.

KPGA Women's Professional Championship

The KPGA Women’s Professional Championship showcased a strong field filled with both competition and camaraderie. Leading the way was Sara Stephens, PGA, of The Stephens Golf Center, who carded a 78 and finished her round with a smile.

“It was a little rocky this morning, but after a couple of holes, I started to get a footing a little bit and got a little bit of a groove once we made the turn,” Stephens said of her round. She also highlighted a couple of key moments, adding, “On hole 17, I was behind the green and chipped in for par,” while also noting the birdie she made on the par-5 hole 14.

Olivia Hardesty, PGA, of Quail Chase Golf Club, finished in solo second with birdies on hole 14 and 18.

Rounding out the top three was Sally Morgan, PGA, of the Kentucky Section, whose round was highlighted by a birdie on the opening hole and holding the lead for the majority of the front nine.

18th KPGA Assistant Professional Championship

The 18th KPGA Assistant Professional Championship brought two rounds of steady scoring, competitive fire, and a chance to earn two coveted spots at the 2025 Assistant PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

When the final putts dropped, it was Alastair Tidcombe, PGA, of Valhalla Golf Club who emerged on top. Tidcombe posted rounds of 70–69 for a winning total of 139, starting the morning shotgun wave on the 14th hole with a birdie, which would be the first of five he would card for the round (14, 1, 2, 5, 10).  In the afternoon round, he would start on the 1st hole with a bogey, but birdied three of the next four holes.  He would then add another three birdies on the back nine, including a final birdie on the 18th to secure the victory.

Reflecting on his play, Tidcombe said, “This morning was solid. I kept the ball in front of me, putted well, and tried to keep it stress-free heading into the second round.” He also pointed to one particularly memorable moment: “Probably hit one of the shots of my life on No. 1. I hit my tee ball into the fairway bunker. I’m not the best fairway bunker player, so I aimed a little left just in case I chunked it and hit the water. I pulled it, took a huge swing, and it rolled out — I had 20 feet for par.”

As for celebrating, Tidcombe kept it simple: he planned to spend the evening with his wife and stop for ice cream on the way home.

Joining him as a qualifier is CJ Jones, of Triple Crown Country Club. Jones fired a closing 69 to finish at 142, good for solo second. It was a fitting moment at Bowling Green Country Club, the same course where Jones captured the 2015 KHSAA State Championship — a memory his mother, present in the gallery, proudly recalled.

Nathan Hincks, PGA, of The Club at Olde Stone, and David Plumb, of Bowling Green Country Club, tied for third at 143. Hincks posted rounds of 66–77, while Plumb carded 73–70, though Plumb was not competing for a national qualifying position.

In fourth was Aaron Eldridge, PGA, of Traditions Golf Club with 74–70–144, followed by Daniel Iceman, PGA, at 76–72–148. Iceman, who had captured the last three editions of this event and six overall, came up short of a fourth straight title, though his record of success has already left a lasting mark on Kentucky golf.

With their impressive performances, Tidcombe and Jones advance to the 2025 Assistant PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club, supported by Srixon Golf and Cleveland Golf, while Hincks, Eldridge, and Iceman secured alternate positions.
