Preview: 98th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Women’s Amateur Set for Hunting Creek Country Club

PROSPECT, KY — The 98th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Women’s Amateur Championship is set for June 8–10 at Hunting Creek Country Club in Prospect, bringing together many of the top female amateur golfers in the Commonwealth for one of Kentucky’s most historic championships.

This year marks the first time the Kentucky Women’s Amateur will be contested at Hunting Creek, a longtime staple of Kentucky golf. Established in 1964, Hunting Creek has hosted several major championships over the years, including the Men’s Kentucky Amateur, the Kentucky Open, and the Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship. Hunting Creek also hosted the 2024 KGA Amateur Series Championship.

The championship will begin Monday with 18 holes of individual stroke play in the Championship Division. The top 16 players will advance to the Championship Bracket, with the remaining players seeded into a consolation bracket. Match play will begin Tuesday morning with the Round of 16, followed by quarterfinal matches Tuesday afternoon. The championship will conclude Wednesday with semifinal and final matches.

The Senior Division, open to players ages 55 and older, will also be contested in match play brackets of 8, beginning Monday and continuing through the final match on Wednesday.

Among the names to watch is Taryn Walker of Prospect, the 2005 champion, who enters the championship competing on familiar ground, as Hunting Creek is her home course. Another contender is the 2025 Kentucky Women’s Stroke Play champion Mary Keene Marrs. They are joined by a slew of strong contenders including Karra Tucker, Emma Lindemoen, Willa Borough and Isabella Wiley. Being a match play event it truly could be anyone hosting the trophy at the end of the day on Wednesday.

The defending champion, Cathryn Brown of Eddyville, is not in this year’s field, which means a new champion will be crowned at Hunting Creek.

In the Senior Division, 2025 Senior Division Champion Delia Kahle returns as one of the top players in the field. Five-time defending Kentucky Senior Women’s Amateur Champion Susan Stewart stands in her way of a repeat. While Jennifer Hartlage and Carrie Armacost round out the top 4 seeds in the division.

The championship will once again carry WAGR, World Amateur Golf Ranking, United States Golf Rankings (TUGR) and KGA Player of the Year points, adding to the significance of the week for players competing at the state, regional, and national level. This year’s championship is especially important, as another strong field could help the Kentucky Women’s Amateur meet the requirements needed for the 2027 champion to receive an exemption into the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. That opportunity would be a meaningful step in continuing to elevate women’s golf in Kentucky.

With a strong field, a new host venue, and one of Kentucky’s most respected women’s amateur titles on the line, the 98th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Women’s Amateur Championship is set for three exciting days at Hunting Creek Country Club.

The Kentucky Golf Association extends its appreciation to the membership and staff at Hunting Creek Country Club for their hospitality and continued support of amateur golf in the Commonwealth.
