SHELBYVILLE, KY (July 29, 2025) – The final round of the inaugural Kentucky Women’s & Senior Men’s Stroke Play Championship concluded Tuesday at The Shelbyville Country Club, where competitors across six divisions teed it up for state titles. After two days of challenging summer conditions and standout performances, champions were crowned in each flight, marking a strong addition to the Kentucky Golf Association’s championship schedule.

Women’s Open Gross

Mary Keene Marrs of Lexington emerged victorious in the Women’s Open Division after a composed two-under 71 in the final round, finishing with a 141 total (70-71) for the championship. Marrs birdied holes 6, 10, and 15, and made just one bogey all day on the 18th.

Claira Beth Eden of Richmond, the round one leader, finished tied for second with a 146 total (68-78). Eden’s final round was highlighted by an eagle on 16 and a birdie on 17.

Taryn Walker of Prospect joined Eden in second place, carding back-to-back rounds of 73. Walker put together a strong closing round with birdies on holes 3, 5, 9, 10, and 15, and added an eagle on 17 to cap off her round.

Women’s Senior Gross

Susan Stewart of Louisville claimed the Women’s Senior title with rounds of 76-77, finishing at seven-over 153. Stewart’s consistent play across both rounds kept her well ahead of the field.

Finishing in second was Melynda Riley of Russellville with rounds of 93 and 92 for a total of 185.

Women’s Super Senior Gross

Natalie Britton of Georgetown held on to her lead in the Super Senior Division, finishing with rounds of 84 and 96 for a two-day total of 180.

Just one shot behind was Carolyn Kinsolving of Simpsonville, who posted rounds of 85 and 96 to finish at 181.

Men’s Senior Gross

Bryan Baysinger of Glasgow stormed to the top of the Men’s Senior leaderboard with a bogey-free final round of 64 that included eight birdies — on holes 2, 5, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, and 18. Baysinger finished with a total of 137 to secure the title at eight-under.

Richard Hayden of Owensboro, who shared the lead after round one, earned runner-up honors with rounds of 71-71 for a two-day total of 142. Hayden’s final round featured birdies on holes 5, 7, 10, 11, 14, and 17, keeping him in contention until the end.

Men’s Masters Gross
David Combs of Louisville claimed the Men’s Masters title with a total score of four-under, posting rounds of 68 and 72 for a two-day total of 140. Combs made pars throughout much of his final round, with a single bogey his entire round on the 15th offset by a birdie on 17.

Greg Engle of Lexington finished second with rounds of 75 and 72, totaling 147. His final round featured birdies on holes 1, 9, 11, 15, and 18.

Men’s Legends Gross
Dennis Long of Shelbyville took home the Men’s Legends title after following up his opening-round 70 with a solid 73 in the final round. Long closed with a 143 total, distinguishing himself as the sole competitor in the division to finish under the set scoring mark. His second round included birdies on holes 6, 7, 10, and 15.

Phillip Harper of Falmouth claimed solo second with rounds of 76-76 for a two-day total of 152. Harper’s final round featured a birdie on 6 and an eagle on 10.
