Abbie Lee Captures the 29th Kentucky Women’s Open Title!

Abbie Lee with the Kentucky Women's Open Trophy
LOUISVILLE, KY (July 15, 2025) — A thrilling final round and a weather delay shaped a dramatic conclusion to the 29th Kentucky Women’s Open at University of Louisville Golf Club, where amateur Abbie Lee of Glasgow, Kentucky and a member of the Middle Tennessee State golf team, fired a blistering seven-under 65 to surge from behind and win the championship at a total of 74-65—139 (-5).
Lee made her presence felt early in the round, carding five straight birdies on holes 1 through 5 and adding another on the par-4 9th to complete a bogey-free front nine of 30! Her momentum continued on the back nine with a birdie on 12, a bogey on 13, a bounce-back birdie on 14, a bogey on 16, and a finishing birdie on 18 to seal the lowest round of the championship and complete her comeback.
Entering the day five shots off the lead, Lee vaulted past three first-round co-leaders—Haeri Lee (Buffalo Grove, IL), Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN), and Sarah Arnold (Geneva, IL)—all of whom turned in final-round 71s to finish at four-under (140), which tied the trio for the overall runner-up position and low professional honors.
Haeri Lee, a former Drake University standout and former Illinois Women’s Amateur Champion (2024), was steady throughout the championship, as she began her final round with a string of pars before making birdie on the par-5 4th. A bogey on 8 was quickly offset by a birdie on 9. On the back nine, she added a birdie on 16 and had a par putt on 18 to force a playoff, but just missed, leading to a tap in bogey.
Alyssa Montgomery, a former Virginia Tech and University of South Florida standout and the current Head Women’s Golf Coach at Carson-Newman, opened with a bogey on hole 1, before recovering with birdies on holes 4, 7, and 9 to make the turn at two-under for the day. Her back nine featured a birdie on 10, bogeys on 12 and 14, a birdie on 15, and another bogey on 16 to finish with a one-under 71.
Sarah Arnold, a former Western Kentucky University standout and former Illinois Women’s Amateur Champion (2019), put together a dynamic round that included an eagle on the par-5 9th. Her front nine had some ebb and flow with bogeys on 3 and 7, birdies on 5 and 8, and the eagle on 9. She added a birdie on 13 on the back nine, but bogeys on 11, 12, and 15 kept her from making a deeper run. A closing birdie on 17 helped secure her share of the runner-up position.
Play was delayed briefly in the morning and again in the afternoon for 3 hours due to weather, but competitors showed resilience and focus as they returned to finish the final round under calm skies.
The Kentucky PGA extends its sincere appreciation to the University of Louisville Golf Club and its staff for their continued support and hospitality in hosting this premier event.
