Kendrick Leads After Rain-Delayed Opening Day at Kentucky Men’s Mid-Amateur
RICHMOND, Ky. – Rain stopped the 32nd Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship shortly after it started Thursday. By the end of the day, Danville Country Club’s Ben Kendrick had climbed to the top of the leaderboard.
A weather delay sent players off the course early in the opening round at Gibson Bay Golf Course, and play did not resume until noon. Much of the field was unable to finish its scheduled 36 holes, so the second round will be completed Friday morning before the championship wraps up.
Kendrick sits at 2 under with six holes left in his second round. After an opening 73, he made four birdies on the front nine of his second round to shoot 3-under 33.
Kyle Jury is one shot back at 1 under with three holes remaining. Jury shared the first-round lead with a 2-under 70.
Indian Hills Country Club’s Christian Tooley, who also opened with a 70, is alone in third at even par with nine holes to play.
Joshua Rhodes, the 2011 champion from the Country Club of Paducah, is fourth at 1 over with seven holes left.
Four players are tied for fifth at 2 over. Luke Fuller of Lexington Country Club is the only one of the group to complete 36 holes. Fuller shared the first-round lead at 70, fueled by a 4-under 32 on the front nine, and added an eagle on the par-5 seventh in the second round to finish at 146.
Valhalla Golf Club’s Chris Smith, 2019 champion Matt Epperson of Elizabethtown Country Club and Griffin Gate Golf Club’s Alex Wright join Fuller at 2 over, each with holes left to play Friday morning.
Miles Parroco and Hurstbourne Country Club’s Robbie Keyes are tied for ninth at 3 over. Parroco made an eagle on the par-5 second on his way to a 36-hole total of 147. Keyes closed his first round with four straight birdies on holes 15 through 18 and has six holes left in his second round.
The second round will resume Friday morning, followed by the final round.
