LETTER TO CONTESTANTS

Congratulations on qualifying for the 109th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur Championship! We are looking forward to your arrival at Kearney Hill Golf Links for what promises to be a very special championship.

The Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur is the oldest amateur championship in the state and boasts a rich history that dates back to 1911. Kearney Hill is hosting the championship for the fourth time in 2023.

The Kentucky Golf Association welcomes you as a player and wishes you luck as you vie to become the next Kentucky Amateur Champion.

Please read through all the information below carefully as it contains valuable information to help you make arrangements and also serves as a reference throughout the Championship.

Registration

All competitors must register with the tournament committee on site at Kearney Hill Golf Links by 5:30 p.m. EDT on Monday, June 12. The player registration will be located in the clubhouse. Player registration will be open on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EDT. PLEASE STOP IN AND REGISTER PRIOR TO YOUR PRACTICE ROUND STARTING TIME.

Format & Schedule

The championship is scheduled to be a 54-hole stroke play competition. There will be a cut to the low 70 players and ties after the first 36 holes of competition. In the event there is a tie for first place at the end of the final round, the hole by hole playoff procedures will be used and announced at the championship site.

Notice of Withdrawal

If you must withdraw, up to and including Friday, June 10, please notify the KGA immediately by calling (502) 243-8295. Beginning Saturday, June 10, you may send your notice of withdrawal to the KGA.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds for the 2023 Clark’s Pump-n-Shop Kentucky Amateur will be available for competitors only on Monday, June 12. You must call the golf shop at Kearney Hill Golf Links at (859) 253-1981 to reserve your tee time. Players must identify themselves as Kentucky Amateur Championship contestants.

Practice rounds may be scheduled from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The #1 tee will close at this time for maintenance needs. Additional practice rounds are at the discretion of Kearney Hill Golf Links and applicable fees may apply.

Alternates do not have playing privileges on the official practice round day until being invited into the championship field.

Player Communication

Prior to and during the course of the championship, the KGA will utilize Text Messaging and Email to communicate suspensions of play, resumptions, delays in starting times, or any other matter of importance. Please note that standard text messaging rates may apply. You can also refer to the Kentucky Amateur website for official news and updates.

Starting Time Procedures

Clocks indicating the official time will be placed at the practice range, practice putting green and the first and tenth tees. No public announcement will be used for calling players to the tee. Competitors are expected to be on the tee, ready to play, when the first name in the group is called by the starter on the tee. A player who is not ready to play when the first name is called will be penalized two strokes, and if after five minutes, is either not present or not ready, will be disqualified. It is suggested that all players be on their designated starting tee up to a minimum of 5 minutes prior to their tee times.

Dress Code

Contestants and caddies are requested to adhere to the following:

  • Shorts must be Bermuda length
  • Shirts must have a collar & be tucked in at all times
  • Jeans are not allowed
  • Hats are to be worn in a traditional manner
  • No cargo pants or shorts are allowed

Distance Measuring Devices:

A player may obtain distance information by use of a distance measuring device. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 4-3a.

Live Scoring:

Players will receive a check-in code via BlueGolf for the purpose of live scoring. It is asked that one person in each group enter scores for each player following the conclusion of every hole so the leaderboard can be as updated as much as possible.

Food & Beverage

Food & Beverage will be available on a cash basis for players, caddies, and spectators.

Pace of Play Guidelines

Kentucky Golf Association pace of play guidelines will be strictly enforced.  The full KGA Pace of Play policy can be found online at kygolf.org

Trophies & Prizes:

The winner will have his name engraved on the permanent Kentucky Amateur Championship trophy. The low Junior, Senior and Public Links player will also receive a trophy.  The low 30 finishers will also receive merchandise certificates redeemable at the Kearney Hill golf shop.

The 2023 Kentucky Amateur Champion will receive a lifetime exemption to the Kentucky Amateur and a 5 year exemption into the Kentucky Open. The top 25 & ties from the 2023 Kentucky Amateur will be exempt into the 2024 Kentucky Amateur at Country Club of Owensboro.
