King of the (Summit) Hills: Eric King Wins GHK Classic #3 supported by Hole-in-One U.S.A.

Eric King wins final GHK Classic of 2022 at Summit Hills Country Club.

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY (August 22, 2022) – Eric King was the king of Golf House Kentucky Classic #3 supported by Hole-in-One U.S.A. The amateur from Lexington shot 66 (-4) at Summit Hills Country Club on Monday to win the amateur-professional combo event by a stroke over Jesse Massie, PGA.

No bogeys were found on King’s scorecard which instead featured a lot of pars mixed together with several birdies. After 13 holes, King had made a dozen pars with one birdie to sit at -1 for the day, but three birdies in the final five holes vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard. The last of which came on the 18th green which King estimated to be about forty feet away. By holing it, he wrapped up his first GHK-sanctioned victory of the season and officially became “King of the (Summit) Hills” for the day.

Massie, the runner-up, was the low professional with 67 (-3). Like King, no bogeys graced his scorecard during the event, and it allowed him to take home a check worth $700.

Jeremy Martin finished in third with 68 (-2) while Gabe Wheeler and Blake Moody rounded out the top-five and the list of players to shoot under-par rounds with 69 (-1).

NOTES & STATS

  • Hole-in-one prizes were on the line today courtesy of Hole-in-One U.S.A, but unfortunately nobody was able to card a “1” on any hole today. There were two eagles, however, with Wheeler getting one on the par-five 12th and Robert Costello, PGA earning one on the par-five 15th.
  • Hole 12 was the easiest of the tournament with 23 birdies going alongside Wheeler’s eagle. It played to a stroke-to-par average of -0.28 while surrendering the most birdies of any hole.
  • The long, daunting par-three 6th was the hardest hole of the day at +0.56. Josh Griffin, PGA was able to card an impressive birdie here despite its challenges.
  • The back nine was the much easier side of the two, coming in with an average score of 36.24 (+1.24) compared to 37.72 (+2.72) on holes 1-9.
  • Summit Hills’ course average when combining each figure was 73.96 (+3.96).
