Late Birdies Propel Oldendick to Victory at Persimmon Ridge

Bruce Oldendick, PGA claims victory at Persimmon Ridge in stableford tournament.

LOUISVILLE, KY (May 31, 2022) – Known for producing drama, stableford delivered once again today with a captivating finish to Golf House Kentucky Classic #2 presented by Cunningham | Yamaha. Seven players finished within two points of the winning score which was 43 points from Bruce Oldendick, PGA.

The Head Golf Professional at Pendleton Hills outlasted a strong field containing Kentucky PGA Members and amateurs from across the Commonwealth who gathered at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday. With eagles worth 6 points, birdies worth 4, pars worth 2, bogeys worth 1, and anything worse than double bogey getting 0 points, Oldendick accumulated a higher total than any of his peers with 43.

Five birdies throughout his day helped him get there, but two birdies on the closing 17th and 18th holes proved to be large when it was all said and done. Paxton Song and Nick Johnston each finished a point behind Oldendick, and each of them made birdie on one of the 17th or 18th holes, but not both like Oldendick.

It was a similar story for those who finished in a four-way tie for fourth place. Adam Gary, PGA, Jesse Massie, PGA, Mitchell Moore, PGA, and Gabe Wheeler all amassed 41 points but could not match Oldendick’s birdie-birdie finish.

As a result, it makes Oldendick a winner for the second straight week after winning the Pro-Pro competition alongside Greg Basham, PGA last week at Audubon Country Club during the Callaway Pro-Assistant. Today’s victory is his first overall victory of 2022 and goes alongside a low senior professional win he had at the Pro-Am Championship supported by Sun Mountain two weeks ago.

NOTES & STATS

  • If the event was played via stroke play today, the result would have perhaps been different as Johnston and Oldendick matched stroke play scores with 70 (-2).
  • Oldendick’s birdie on the 17th today was all the more clutch since that was the hardest hole of the day. Based off gross scores recorded on that hole, it played to a stroke-to-par average of +0.82.
  • The par-four 7th was the easiest hole of the tournament at +0.10.
  • Today’s scoring average was 79.12 strokes. The front nine played 0.46 shots easier than the back side.
  • Tom Walters, PGA was the winner of a closest-to-the-hole contest on the par-three 14th thanks to hitting his tee shot to three feet. Cunningham | Yamaha kindly donated a prize to Walters for doing so.
