Andrew Stephens Claims Two-Stroke Victory in GHK Classic #1 presented by Mobile Pro Shop

Andrew Stephens starts 2022 with a victory to follow up dominant 2021 campaign.

PADUCAH, KY (April 11, 2022) – A common refrain throughout the 2021 golf season in Kentucky was how well Andrew Stephens played and it leading to him in him picking up several titles. His 2022 has started the same way, with his individual season beginning with a win at Country Club of Paducah today in Golf House Kentucky Classic #1 presented by Mobile Pro Shop.

His two nines on Monday were similar in score but the ways in which he got there varied. On his outward nine, Stephens made nine pars on his way to 36 (E) before a back nine that included three birdies and two bogeys. The last of the birdies came on the par-five 18th where an up and in from left of the green bumped his lead from one stroke to two, putting the finishing touches on his maiden win of the season.

Gabe Wheeler, an Assistant Professional at Country Club of Paducah since August, finished runner-up with a score of 73 (+1). Rocco Zakutney was the low amateur thanks to a round of 74 (+2), while Daniel Iceman III and Drake Stepter rounded out the top-five with tallies of 75 (+3).

NOTES & STATS

  • On a day where the weather forecast seemed daunting for the tournament to be completed, there would only end up being one weather delay. Play was suspended at 2:15 p.m. CDT due to lightning in the area, but was able to resume at 3:30 p.m.
  • The par-three 2nd was the hardest hole of the day, playing more than a stroke over par amongst the field average at +1.02. John Vidal made the only birdie of the competition on it while 37 bogeys or worse were recorded.
  • Hole 2 began the hardest three-hole stretch of the golf course, as the par-four 3rd was the second-hardest hole of the day (+0.90) with the par-four 4th playing as the fifth-hardest (+0.81).
  • Those holes did lead to the easiest of the day, however, with the par-five 5th coming in at +0.27 and tying for the most birdies allowed of any hole with eight.
  • Mitchell Moore had arguably the best comeback of any competitor in the field. After starting his round with a triple bogey and a double bogey, Moore played the remaining sixteen holes in +1 to ultimately finish inside the top-ten.
