Fred Meyer Makes the New Persimmon Ridge Course Record Following Day 1 of the Kentucky Open

LOUISVILLE, KY (July 25, 2023) – After qualifying for the tournament three weeks ago at Perry Park, Fred Meyer leapt to the top of the leaderboard with an 8-under 64, setting the new Persimmon Ridge course record. The former University of Kentucky player, who now plays for the PGA Tour Latinoamérica, holds a one-shot lead.

Meyer had a stellar round today, with a mix of only pars and birdies, shooting 31 on the front and 33 on the back. His eight birdies are second for the most today.

Not far behind sits Justin Tereshko, who comes off of winning the Kentucky State Amateur tournament just five weeks ago. After going 3-under in his first three holes, thanks to a birdie and an eagle and a 5-hole birdie stretch on 11-15, he sits one back at 7-under. Former Kentucky Open champion Brandon Brown is T3 after a 5-under 67. He played a steady round today with six birdies and just one bogey on the 450-yard par 4 10th hole. With Brown at T3 is Dustin Denzik, whose round of 67 included a double bogey, offset with the most birdies of the day at 9.

A host of other competitors sit in the top ten, with scores capping out at -2. A total of 29 players out of the 156-man field posted scores under par.

Second round tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Tuesday’s morning wave of players will be in the afternoon wave on tomorrow, which is slated to start at 12:45 p.m.
