Brumfield Wins 24th Kentucky Senior Open Presented by Golf Genius

Brumfield snags 24th Kentucky Senior Open title in Frankfort.

Frankfort, KY (June 28, 2023) – Fighting off many second-round charges from competitors Mike Brumfield steadied the ship on his final nine holes of competition to capture the 24th Kentucky Senior Open presented by Golf Genius.

Beginning the day with a two-shot lead over Jon Stanley, T. Bruce Oldendick, and Alan Sorensen, Brumfield’s start wasn’t ideal as his day began with bogeys on the 2nd and the 4th, this led to a disappointing two over par 38 on the front nine. KPGA Professional Darren Wittenberg appeared to be the man to beat heading into the last 9 holes, Wittenburg opened with an impressive 2 under par 38 on the front nine and followed it up with key birdies on the 11th and 15th holes. Brumfield was able to seal the deal as he made a clutch birdie on the 17th hole which led to a 141 (-3) finish for the championship. Wittenburg hit a disappointing drive on 18 which led to a bogey to have him finish 143 (-1) for the event.

Also experiencing some first-place excitement today was Mike Newton who won the event’s Super Senior Division firing an impressive 150 (+6). A final round of 74 (+2) was highlighted by a blazing three birdies on the 3rd,7th, and 10th holes. Newton overcame Jeff Snyder who finishes runner-up in the division with shooting 153 (+9).
