Andrew Buse Holds Lead Halfway Through State Mid-Am

PADUCAH, KY (August 24, 2020) – A beautiful day in Paducah greeted the competitors of the 26th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Am on Monday with Paxton Park Golf Course offering a good challenge to this week’s contestants. At the end of the opening round, Shepherdsville’s Andrew Buse is on top after shooting 68 (-3). Trailing him by a stroke is defending champion Matt Epperson at 69 (-2) while four players sit in a tie for third place two strokes back of Buse after they each shot 70 (-1).

An intriguing final round awaits with the potential for lots of excitement given the crowded leaderboard, but there is also a Senior Division to be decided for as well. Local Paducah resident Kevin Westerfield leads by three strokes as a result of his 72 (+1). Scott King is his nearest chaser after shooting 75 (+4) on Monday.

For the respective net divisions taking place, Davis Boland and Aaron Yarmuth share the Open Division’s top spot after they recorded net scores of 72 (+1). A three-way tie is present for the Senior Division, as Jerry Throgmorton, Scott King and Allen Hayes scored 74 (+3).

NOTES AND STATS

  • Across both the Open and Senior Divisions, the hardest hole of the opening round was the par-four 6th which featured a stroke-to-par average of +0.54.
  • The 6th stood in the middle of what ended up being a difficult three-hole stretch at Paxton Park. The par-three 5th was the fourth-hardest hole at +0.49, while the par-four 7th was the second most difficult with +0.53.
  • Not so difficult was the final hole on the golf course, as the par-five 18th was the easiest of the day at -0.05.
