Big Spring Hosts Opening Series Event for KGA

Louisville, KY (April 19, 2017) – The Kentucky Golf Association tournament season began today at Big Spring Country Club.  A full field of 144 players of all ages and skill competed on the par 72 well known Kentucky golf course. The KGA Am Series features five divisions of play.  Players accumulate points based off their performance throughout the Am Series events to qualify for the season-ending Series Championship to be held at Standard Country Club in September.  Today's winners will now be the point leaders for the race to the championship!

The Open Division is a gross only competition for participants ages 18-54.  Andrew Strother from Lexington carded a 71 for a one shot victory over Rob Crockett of Louisville.

The Players Division features both gross and net winners, ages 18-54.  Tony Wise of Georgetown was the Low Gross Winner with a 73 and Gavin Murdoch was the Low Net Winner with a score of 66. The Players Division (Under 54) was won by Tony Wise of Georgetown with a score of 73.  Gavin Murdoch of Louisville shot the lowest net score of the day to be the Net Championship with a 6-under par 66. The Masters Division (ages 65-71) was won with a low gross score of 72, even par, by Jim Orr of Louisville.  He barely edged out Allan Fugate of Louisville who was the eventual Low Net Champion for the division. The Senior Division (ages 55-64) had the largest field with 55 players in this division.

A former KY Amateur Champion, Jim Brown posted a strong round of 1-under par 71 early in the day and then waited for the remainder of the field to finish before discovering his round would hold on for a one shot victory over Steve Humphrey of Lexington.   The Low Net Champion was David Farrell of Louisville with a net score of 4-under 68. The Legends (ages 72 & above) winner was no surprise as Don Wood of Louisville started off the 2017 season just like he finished the 2016 season.....with a 73 and a victory!

The Low Net Champion was Fred McMillen of Bardstown With a strong round of 74, just missing out on the Gross prize, but capturing the net contest. special thanks to Big Spring Country Club and their professional staff for hosting this event. For Full Results and statistics ...click here >>
