KGA Unveils Western Kentucky Amateur Series

LOUISVILLE, KY (April 21, 2021) – The Kentucky Golf Association is creating the Western Kentucky Amateur Series, a series of golf tournaments much like the Association’s popular KGA Amateur Series tournaments, which will be played strictly within Western Kentucky. These regional one-day competitions will begin this summer with three tournaments scheduled at some of the region’s finest facilities.

While designed to create a convenient means for amateur golfers in Western Kentucky to compete in the state’s premier golf tournaments, these events will be open for registration to any amateur golfer of any age or gender in Kentucky who has a valid handicap index within the state.

Every tournament will count both gross and net scores with four age divisions in play for both men and women. There will be an Open Division (players aged 49 or younger), Senior Division (players aged 50-59), Masters Division (players aged 60-69), and Legends Division (players aged 70 or older). The Western Kentucky Amateur Series will feature its own points standings, separate from the KGA Amateur Series standings and the KGA Player of the Year standings. Every division will contain its own points standings for both gross and net scores, with the top players from each division to be recognized as the Western Kentucky Players of the Year.

“The Western Kentucky Amateur Series is something we’ve been wanting to initiate for quite some time now,” Dean Terry, Vice President of the Kentucky Golf Association and Paducah resident stated. “By bringing a series of golf tournaments to Western Kentucky, residents in the surrounding areas won’t have to do as much traveling to play in tournaments as they are sometimes forced to do. The ability to also compete for a Player of the Year title in these events regardless of a golfer’s skill level, should foster fun and competitive environments.”

The Western Kentucky Amateur Series schedule is as follows. The tournaments in May and July are now open for registration, which can be done by clicking on the golf course below. Registration for the tournament in June will open once the host site is confirmed.
