The 2011 Larry Gilbert Foundation Pro-Junior Championship had one of the closest finishes in recent memory as teams in the Ages 16 - 18 flight battled to the end. Taking the winner's spot was the team from Lake Barkley Golf Course led by PGA Professional Dee Brown.
Golf Range Magazine Top 50 Golf Instructors in America
Kentucky PGA Section members Ralph Landrum (World of Golf, Florence) and Todd Trimble (The Golf Complex, Paducah) have made the list of Top 50 Golf Instructors in America.
During the first round of the 2011 Kentucky PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car, Mercedes-Benz and Omega, Louisville's Kelly Maxwell finish his round with consecutive fives on the last three holes. He obviously used that disappointment to his advantage in today's final round by posting the tournament's best score of 67 and winning the championship.
This may the year of the first time winners at the "majors" so far and apparently the KPGA is following suit as one of the newest PGA apprentices in the section found his way to victory today at the 2011 Winner's Award Group/Cutter & Buck Classic.

KGA Team Captures Cup for 2011
Amateurs Dominate Annual Competition
The Kentucky Golf Association's team for the 2011 Mobile ProShop Challenge Cup defeated the Kentucky Section PGA team by a total of 11 to 4 points today at Louisville's Polo Fields Golf & CC. Leading the way for the amateur team was current Kentucky Open champion Andy Roberts of Owensboro. Roberts took both points in his match play competitions in the 4-ball match and the singles match. Also providing leadership and producing wins was NCAA Division III champion Chris Morris from Maysville.
According to a recent survey, family obligation was listed as one of the top reasons people stop playing golf. In order to solve this problem, it is important that every golf course offers family-friendly programs. While many of America’s golf facilities offer golf instruction programs and playing opportunities for junior golfers, few provide programs for the parents of these juniors. Through family golf programs, golf facilities can cater to both groups.

KPGA and World of Golf Visit the Florence Freedom Baseball Stadium
Free Golf Mini-Lessons Conducted for Kids in Attendance
The World of Golf and the Kentucky PGA Section participated in pre-game activities at a Florence Freedom baseball game this week. PGA Professional Ralph Landrum was on hand to give free lessons to kids of all ages. The PGA booth was popular among the young baseball fans who learned how to fine-tune their golf swing.
